The Hike:

This short, easy hike has an excellent rewards to effort ratio. The overlook is 3,000 feet above the Blackwater Canyon with expansive views. In early July, flowering mountain laurel and rhododendron line the trail. This is a popular spot for sunrise and sunset.

Beer Pairing:

Blackwater Lodge is just a few miles from the trailhead. They have six taps of local craft beer, indoor and outdoor seating, and a full menu including a variety of items from their smokehouse.

Pete enjoyed a pint of Big Timber Porter (6.5% ABV • 33 IBU) with strong notes of coffee and dark chocolate. Kathy really liked Lefty Lucy American Ale (5.9% ABV) from Stumptown Ales. This dark amber ale is loaded with hops and goes great with a smoked brisket sandwich. Hoppy Trails!

Hike and drink responsibly. Never drink and drive. Stay safe, be responsible, and leave no trace.
