The Hike:
This park is best known for Blackwater Falls. Elakala Falls, conveniently located near the park lodge, offers an opportunity to visit the falls from above and below. The waterfall is the highlight of this hike—most people just hike to the falls.
A footbridge leads over the falls with somer nice views of the creek below. For an up close view of the falls, continue past the footbridge and follow a steep unmarked trail down to the stream below. The trail continues past the falls with some partial views of the Blackwater Canyon. For a better view of the canyon, head to the lodge, order a beer, and walk to the overlook behind the lodge.

Beer Pairing:
Blackwater Lodge is just a few hundred yards from the trailhead. They have six taps of local craft beer, indoor and outdoor seating, and a full menu including a variety of items from their smokehouse.
Pete enjoyed a pint of Big Timber Porter (6.5% ABV • 33 IBU) with strong notes of coffee and dark chocolate. Kathy really liked Lefty Lucy American Ale (5.9% ABV) from Stumptown Ales. This dark amber ale is loaded with hops and goes great with a smoked brisket sandwich. Hoppy Trails!

Hike and drink responsibly. Never drink and drive. Stay safe, be responsible, and leave no trace.
