The Hike:
Located near Bassett Hall and owned by Colonial Williamsburg, this short nature trail provides a secluded break from the crowds in Williamsburg. While the trail is part of Colonial Williamsburg, there is no charge to use the trail. Download the trail map which includes descriptions of trees and plans found along the trail. This hike borders a golf course part of the way.
The hike begins in the parking lot near the Griffin Hotel, one of the Colonial Williamsburg lodging options. A trailhead kiosk has a map and the trail is well marked and maintained by a dedicated team of volunteers.
Follow the red blazes and trail signs through the forest. Notice the small tags mounted to trees. Each tree species has a QR code you can scan with your phone to identify the tree and learn more about it. At .5 miles, cross a small footbridge over a stream and the trail begins a gradual climb.
At 1.1 miles reach the ponds and cross over an earthen dam. The golf course is visible on both sides at this point. Continue on the trail and reach the Green Course Clubhouse at 1.4 miles. The clubhouse has restrooms and also serves lunch. Retrace your steps to return to the parking area and your vehicle.

Beer Pairing:
Located less than one mile from the trailhead is Precarious Beer Project. They have 18 taps, indoor and outdoor seating, and the Electric Circus Taco Bar has a variety of food options.
Pete really liked Fortune & Glory (4.5% ABV), a Bohemian Pilsner brewed with Czech Saaz hops and and German malt for depth and body. It’s 100% naturally carbonated and it is perfect any time of year. Kathy enjoyed a glass of Chug Rug (6% ABV), a west coast style IPA brewed with Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic, and El Dorado hops. Both beers paired nicely with smoked salmon tacos. Life is good.
Hike and drink responsibly. Never drink and drive. Stay safe, be responsible, and leave no trace.
